Leeds United have reached an agreement with Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi over a three-year contract, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke wants reinforcements at the Elland Road club after Pascal Struijk left for Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this summer.

Elvedi has emerged as a target for the Whites, with the Switzerland international very open to joining them.

The West Yorkshire club are preparing an official offer and are expected to submit it soon, with Monchengladbach ready to sell him at the right price.

Elvedi made six appearances at the World Cup, and the 29-year-old could be a solid defender for Leeds given his wealth of experience and quality.

He made 33 Bundesliga appearances last term and has played over 350 games for the German top-flight over the last 11 seasons.

The Whites have strengthened at the back this summer after signing Slovenian centre-back Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo and English goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City.

Farke still wants more quality additions and Elvedi could be the next player to come in and bolster his defence.
