Leeds United are pushing to sign Shea Charles, with a fresh bid on the table. According to the Daily Mail, the proposal is an initial £23m plus add-ons.

Leeds lodged an opening £20m offer last month that Southampton did not accept, and talks are understood to be ongoing amid interest from Crystal Palace.

Southampton value Charles at £30m, and Leeds hope the add-ons can close the gap. That implies the extras sit below £7m, though no exact figure has been reported.

A sell-on clause is a key factor. When Southampton signed Charles from Manchester City in 2023 for £15m including bonuses, City retained 15 per cent of any future sale and a buyback right to match any accepted bid.

It is not clear whether that 15 per cent applies to the full fee or only the profit on Southampton’s £15m outlay. Either way, a notable portion of any deal would be passed on.

A second, increased bid underlines Leeds’ intent as Daniel Farke seeks midfield reinforcements. Aged 22, the Northern Ireland international has three years at Southampton and 106 Championship appearances, including 43 on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
