Manchester United travel to a hostile Elland Road to take on Leeds United this Sunday.
The Red Devils have played The Whites 113 times in their history.
United have won 50 of those games and have lost 26 times. There have been 37 draws between the two sides in what is a fierce clash between the two rivals.
Here are three storylines to sink your teeth into before the huge match.
Leeds United have spent the majority of the last 20 years outside of the Premier League, so there have been few matches between the two sides.
Manchester United have come out on top in most of them, however, as according to The BBC, “Leeds have won just one of their last 19 Premier League games against Manchester United.”
There have been 12 wins for Manchester United and six draws in that time.
Leeds United are also winless in nine since a 1-0 home win in September 2002.
The Red Devils have had a good recent record against Leeds United.
Since 2020, there have been six matches and Manchester United have won four and drawn two.
This also includes two consecutive wins at Elland Road. The Red Devils won 4-2 in February 2022 and also came out on top with a 2-0 win in February 2023.
Manchester United have never actually managed to win three consecutive games at Elland Road, so a much-needed three points would also be record-breaking.
Nonetheless, with numerous players out of action due to the Africa Cup of Nations and injury, it will not be an easy assignment.
There is a saying that the first goal in football is critical, but this is not strictly true for the Red Devils this season.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s side have developed an annoying habit of scoring first but then going on to throw points away.
The BBC report that, “Manchester United have drawn six games in the Premier League this season, with the Red Devils opening the scoring in every one. Their 12 points dropped from winning positions this term is already more than they dropped in the whole of last season (11).”
They have also conceded more equalisers than any other team in the league this season.
