The Foxes chief isn't exactly popular with the family of the club's modern-day icon

Leicester City's current situation has been one of the stories of the EFL for many months, albeit Foxes fans will hope the club will be able to address their shortcomings on and off the pitch as soon as possible.

The East Midlands outfit, 12 months ago, were earmarked as one of the promotion hopefuls from the Championship despite suffering a second relegation to the second tier from the Premier League in a three-season period.

However, it has been well-documented that quite the opposite is what transpired at the King Power Stadium under the management of both Marti Cifuentes and Gary Rowett, with the former of those extremely limited last summer when it came to transfer activity despite a mass exodus of senior players.

The key reason behind such limitations was, of course, a major backdrop of financial uncertainty, which led to the sanction of a six-point deduction from the EFL in February 2026 after allegations that the club had breached the governing body's PSR regulations en route to their Championship title-winning season of 2023/24 under former head coach, Enzo Maresca.

This, coupled with a run of two wins in 14 games under Rowett, meant that just a second-ever fall into League One was confirmed in late April alongside Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United, just 10 years after the Foxes achieved one of sport's greatest achievements by winning the Premier League at 5000-1 odds.

Such a triumph was spearheaded by the goals of Jamie Vardy, who ended his 13-year association with the club 12 months ago.

Yet, despite making his feelings towards the club, as a whole, clear, it's fair to say that some on the board at the King Power aren't exactly at the top of his family's popularity list.

While King Power, the club's ownership group, are under intense heat from Leicester supporters at this moment in time, one man who is certainly feeling that pressure more than most is Jon Rudkin.

Rudkin has been at the club for many years now, and during the end period of Vardy's spell in the East Midlands, which ended with an astonishing record of exactly 200 goals in 500 appearances, as well as 71 assists, was Leicester's director of football.

Yet, despite being under pressure, Leicester, earlier this week, confirmed that he would take up an 'evolved' role as the club's CEO, with James McCarron becoming sporting director.

At the time of Vardy's Foxes exit ahead of a recent stint in Serie A with Cremonese - who were also relegated, resulting in the 39-year-old's departure - the striker issued a heartfelt message which referenced several figures throughout his time at the club between 2012 and 2025, although Rudkin, as noted by many supporters, was omitted from that list.

After previously being involved in several matters away from the football pitch, a new ITV documentary titled 'The Vardy's' has come to light, with a three-part series showcasing the 'private' life of Jamie, his wife, Rebekah and their family amid the move from Leicester to Italy.

Following the end of the series, Rebekah took to Instagram to conduct a Q&A session with her hundreds of thousands of followers, and in that, issued a cheeky dig towards Rudkin.

Asked by a Leicester fan, "Would you invite Jon Rudkin to a family BBQ?", Vardy simply responded, "Nope!"

Jamie Vardy's recent links over Leicester City return have also been clarified

Following the news that the 26-time England international would be leaving Cremonese, speculation over an upcoming transfer immediately became rife.

Two clubs extremely close to Vardy's heart are, of course, Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday, and with both competing in League One next season, they had both been namedropped as potential destinations.

However, even though Vardy watched the recent '5000/1' charity game from the stands due to a clause in his Cremonese contract, Rebekah also recently stated on Instagram that talk over a return to the King Power was "fake news".

As such, they will no doubt be watching on hoping that the club's situation - which includes needing clarity over who will be in the dugout - is resolved and that Leicester can rebuild towards another period of success, which was enjoyed by the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield winner.
