Leicester City's hopes of keeping Harry Souttar this summer have been lifted as Sheffield United's chase stalls late in the window.
Sheffield Star reports that the Blades' pursuit is 'effectively over', with no significant permanent signings expected before deadline day, and that the owners have shifted approach to recruitment. The same report adds a move for Anel Ahmedhodzic was considered but not signed off.
Souttar spent the first half of 2024/25 at Bramall Lane before suffering an Achilles tear and returning to Leicester. His 16-month absence ended late last season, after which he featured at the World Cup with Australia.
The centre-back has captained Russell Martin's side in the opening two matches amid interest from United and Wrexham. City have held firm on their valuation and Martin has been clear he wants to keep the 27-year-old.
Leicester are seeking a new centre-back after Ben Nelson's ACL injury, with Wout Faes also set to leave. Without Souttar, they could have been chasing as many as three before 1 September. Martin has said they plan to add at least one and be ready to react, calling a centre-back arrival probably inevitable.
