Leicester City are reportedly pursuing a move for Emily van Egmond from Birmingham City ahead of deadline day.
The Foxes have had a quiet summer transfer window to date, with only two new additions before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
Van Egmond only joined WSL 2 side Birmingham in January and still has two years left on her contract.
The BBC has reported that Birmingham would expect a ‘significant fee’ for the 32-year-old Australian midfielder.
However, a loan move could potentially be on the cards for Van Egmond.
Should Emily van Egmond sign for Leicester City, it would be the 15th club of her professional career.
It would be her third side based in England after Birmingham City and West Ham, who she played for during the 2020-21 season.
Her well-travelled career has also taken her to the likes of Fortuna Hjorring. Western New York Flash, Seattle Reign, Chicago Red Stars, FFC Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, Orlando Pride and Melbourne City.
During her career, she has also had five different stints with her first senior team, Newcastle Jets.
The midfielder has 163 caps and 32 goals for Australia, most recently scoring in their 4-1 victory over Argentina in June.
Van Egmond scored two goals in eight appearances for Birmingham City last season, after joining the club in January.
The 32-year-old said back in May that she was happy at Birmingham City, and was impressed with the club’s backing.
She said: “It’s [the WSL2] a fantastic league. With the way that women’s football is going, some of these other leagues are starting to really take a stance and they’re investing a lot of money; the competition is actually quite high.
“I’m happy to be there. I’ve got a contract until 2027. It’s a very professional club, we’ve got some big-time investors, like Tom Brady, all behind us. Next year, hopefully, we can seal the deal (promotion to the WSL).”
Leicester City have had a quiet summer transfer window, raising concerns ahead of the Women’s Super League season.
The Foxes signed veteran American midfielder Celeste Boureille and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Katie Keane at the beginning of August.
They then completed the signing of Keane’s Irish compatriot Heather Payne, who had spent the past two seasons with Everton.
Leicester City go into the season without a permanent head coach.
The Foxes made the shock decision to part ways with Amandine Miquel just 10 days before the start of the season.
Matt Beard decided to leave his role at third-tier Burnley after he was denied permission to speak with Leicester City.
The former Liverpool boss only joined Burnley in June, and has been placed on gardening leave by the Clarets.
Leicester City face a difficult start to the season away at Manchester United on Sunday, September 7th.
The Foxes also face Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham during the opening month of the campaign.
