Leicester have signed two goalkeepers this summer, Alex McCarthy and Franco Ravizzoli, yet are now linked with Wrexham’s Arthur Okonkwo. Foot Mercato suggests City have made an inquiry to sign the 24-year-old.

McCarthy debuted last weekend at Notts County, replacing Jakob Stolarczyk, and Ravizzoli was not in the squad.

Okonkwo was Wrexham’s first choice last season ahead of former City keeper Danny Ward. Wrexham paid around £8m for Anthony Patterson last week and Okonkwo was left out at Cardiff City on Monday night.

Okonkwo is in the final year of his contract in Wales and could be available for a modest fee. Charlton Athletic are also interested with a loan proposal, and it is unclear whether Leicester’s approach was for a permanent or loan move.

The goalkeeping debate at Leicester is set to rumble on. Some favour Stolarczyk despite issues with the ball at his feet, others value McCarthy’s experience.

McCarthy’s first outing included a shaky moment from a throw-in and one when Ollie Cooper pressed him, but he also made several saves. Okonkwo kept nine clean sheets for a Wrexham team that finished just outside the play-offs and completed 53.2% of his passes, compared with Stolarczyk’s 67.1%.

Bringing in another keeper likely to be first choice could further marginalise Stolarczyk, who lost his place on opening day.
