Leicester City have been relegated to League One after a 2-2 draw with Hull City confirmed a second successive drop down the divisions for the former Premier League champions.
The result leaves the Foxes seven points adrift of safety with only two fixtures remaining, sealing their fall into the third tier for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.
A six-point deduction earlier this year for breaching financial regulations proved a major setback and ultimately played a decisive role in their relegation.
It marks a remarkable decline for a club that stunned English football by winning the Premier League just a decade ago and lifted the FA Cup as recently as 2021. Hopes of stabilising their position this season faded after a strong early run was followed by a prolonged dip in form after the turn of the year.
Hull struck first on the night when Liam Miller capitalised on an error from Asmir Begovic to hand the visitors the advantage. Leicester briefly looked set to keep their survival hopes alive early in the second half, as quick-fire goals from Jordan James and Luke Thomas turned the contest around.
However, Oli McBurnie’s equaliser midway through the half denied the hosts the victory they desperately needed, confirming their fate with games still to play.
