Leicester City are exploring free transfers this summer as Russell Martin seeks to bolster his squad for the League One campaign.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Danny Ings and Conor Chaplin are close to joining, with Archie Collins, Alex McCarthy and Mikael Mandron also mentioned. City have not fully capitalised on the free market in recent seasons.
David Nugent arrived in 2011 after Portsmouth and hit 59 goals in 180 games, including Championship returns of 15, 14 and 20. He then helped keep City up in 2015 and left that summer for Middlesbrough, later playing for Derby County, Preston North End and Tranmere Rovers.
Marc Albrighton joined for nothing after leaving Aston Villa, snapped up following promotion to the Premier League. He made 313 appearances and departed two years ago as a Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship winner.
Lloyd Dyer arrived from Milton Keynes Dons alongside Michael Morrison and Nicky Adams, and went on to become a club legend.
Esteban Cambiasso signed a one-year deal in 2014 after Inter and helped keep City in the top flight. Christian Fuchs joined after leaving FC Schalke and was a regular in the title-winning season.
Gareth McAuley agreed a three-year contract after running down his Lincoln City deal and was a regular for two seasons. Les Ferdinand penned a one-year contract in 2003 after promotion to the Premier League.
Paul Dickov returned after turning down Toronto, and Pearson used him as an option off the bench to replace Matty Fryatt and Steve Howard. Kevin Phillips arrived in January 2014 and played a big role in getting City over the line in the Championship that season.
