Ninho do Urubu hosted Dallas Cowboys training at Flamengo’s base, with Ortiz and Royal joining a cross-code session.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the Flamengo defenders watched Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer’s media conference in the academy auditorium, then moved to Field 4 for tactical drills.

Throughout the workout they discussed rules, strategy and the sport’s backstory, then met league names Von Miller, CeeDee Lamb, Trent Sieg, Bryan Anger, Brandon Aubrey and quarterback Dak Prescott.

The pair swapped Flamengo shirts for official Cowboys gear, picked up autographs and shared laughs on the pitch. Emerson Royal joked he would win a footrace on open grass, saying 22 per hour is nothing and he hits 33.

Ortiz called it a fan’s day, delighted to meet athletes he follows and to do so at Flamengo. He praised their humility, said it fulfilled a dream and that the shirts are heading to his wall.

A declared New England Patriots fan, Ortiz had already appeared in 2025 when he announced defensive tackle Joshua Farmer at the 137th draft pick at Neo Química Arena, home of Corinthians.

The NFL’s visit also involved Flamengo’s medical department, with cardiologist Luiz Macedo coordinating the event’s medical team and orthopaedist Fernando Sassaki assigned to the Cowboys, since US doctors are not licensed to practise in Brazil.

Dallas face the Baltimore Ravens at Maracanã on Sunday 27 at 17:25, Brasília time, the city’s debut as a regular-season NFL host.
