Sunderland non-executive director Leo Pearlman has congratulated David Bruce on becoming Sheffield Wednesday’s chief executive and welcomed the club’s takeover by Arise Capital Partners.
Pearlman said in a LinkedIn post that Wednesday are a club with rich history, identity and support, recalling the play-off semi-final at Hillsborough as one of the finest atmospheres he has experienced.
Bruce has been confirmed as Wednesday’s new CEO after leaving his role as Sunderland’s chief business officer. His departure from the Stadium of Light was announced last month as part of a wider organisational restructure.
He credited Bruce with reconnecting Sunderland to its city and supporters, rebuilding bonds and restoring pride, putting fans back at the heart of the club. He also drew parallels between Sunderland and Wednesday as proud, working-class cities with deeply rooted clubs and fanbases that demand authenticity and connection.
He also commended Arise Capital Partners for making fan relations their top priority and felt they could not have made a better appointment. He was sure Bruce and Wednesday would be back where they belong before long, alongside Sunderland in the Premier League.
