Leon Goretzka signs for Aston Villa on a free transfer | OneFootball

Leon Goretzka has joined Aston Villa on a free transfer after leaving Bayern Munich, his first move outside the Bundesliga. The length of his contract was not disclosed. According to L'Équipe, the 31-year-old completed the move on Thursday and will wear number 27.

A Bochum academy graduate, he made 36 senior appearances and scored four goals. He then spent five seasons at Schalke 04, playing 147 matches and netting 19 times.

Goretzka moved to Bayern in 2018 and became a fixture in midfield. Over eight seasons he featured in 312 games and scored 51 goals.

With Bayern he won seven Bundesliga titles, two German Cups, three German Super Cups and the 2020 Champions League. He left the club this summer as a free agent.

Villa, managed by Unai Emery, have added Goretzka during a summer window that has also brought in Alejandro Garnacho, Joao Gomes, Johan Manzambi, Matteo Ruggeri, Zion Suzuki and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
