Flamengo announced a new deal for Erick Pulgar running to December 2029 hours before facing Mirassol, and coach Leonardo Jardim later underlined the midfielder’s importance.
Pulgar started alongside Jorginho in midfield and delivered the combative, switched-on display supporters expect, coupled with calm use of the ball.
From that composure came the opener at the Maracanã, as he collected near the edge of the Flamengo area and clipped an outside-of-the-boot pass to Samuel Lino.
Lino surged away on the counter, fed Pedro, and the striker rolled the ball to Carrascal, who lashed high beyond goalkeeper Walter.
Soon after, Pulgar collided with an opponent and felt pain in his right thigh, prompting a first-half substitution. He will be reassessed on Friday morning at Ninho do Urubu.
Asked post-match about the renewal, Jardim said the agreement was the club’s decision, reached with the player, and that it keeps a key figure whose quality, intensity and character suit the team’s structure.
Flamengo visit Remo on Sunday in the Brasileirão, kick-off 16:00 Brasília time at Estádio Mangueirão.
