On Wednesday, in a rescheduled round four match against Mirassol, Flamengo struck first on 13 minutes. Erick Pulgar sliced a superb pass from defence to Samuel Lino, who burst down the left and fed Pedro, allowing Carrascal to finish.

Before the interval, they added a second. Carrascal found space on the right and crossed for Paquetá, who headed firmly into the net for 2-0.

The win moved Flamengo to 51 points, one behind Palmeiras on 52. Both sides have now played 25 matches, leaving no game in hand, and the Rubro-Negro control their own push for a 10th national title.

Jardim’s side visit Estádio Mangueirão in Belém on Sunday, with kick-off at 16:00 Brasília time. The match will be shown live on Rede Globo, with GE TV on YouTube and Premiere also broadcasting.
