Bayer Leverkusen have recalled centre-back Tim Oermann early from his loan at Sturm Graz, the club said in a statement.

The 22-year-old joined the Werkself from VfL Bochum in the summer for €2 million and was immediately loaned out to gain playing time.

He established himself as a regular in the first half of the campaign, with Leverkusen satisfied enough with his progress to bring him back now.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes highlighted that Oermann quickly became a key figure for Sturm Graz and also picked up valuable Europa League experience.

Oermann acknowledged he was a little surprised to depart Austria earlier than expected, having geared up for a full season and been happy with his standing in Graz.

He said the early recall shows he is on the right track, and that his energy and commitment now belong to the Werkself.
