Haiti have lost midfielder Leverton Pierre to a right adductor injury two days before their World Cup opener, the national team announced on Thursday.
The Vizela player, who features in Portugal’s second tier, will miss his country’s first World Cup for 52 years.
Pierre, 28, has 33 caps and previously played for Dunkerque from 2019 to 2023 and Avranches in 2023-2024.
He has been replaced in the squad by defender Garven Metusala, a Haiti and Canada dual national who plays for Switchbacks FC in the US second tier, based in Colorado.
The 26-year-old, who has 15 caps, will join a Group C campaign that pits Haiti against Brazil, Morocco and Scotland.
