Lewandowski or Kane? Experts Debate Bayern Legends | OneFootball

Harry Kane is currently playing at an extremely high level and has delivered outstanding performances for FC Bayern in recent months and years. But he isn’t the only world-class striker to have left a lasting impression at the record-holding champions. 

Robert Lewandowski, too, played at the very highest level. The Polish forward played a decisive role in Bayern Munich’s attack for several years and is the only player to date to have surpassed the sensational mark of 40 goals in a single season, set by Gerd Müller.

This naturally raises the question: Which player was ultimately better—Kane at his absolute peak or Lewandowski in his prime?

Kane or Lewandowski? “Tough question”

Hosts Nico Cantor and JayDee Dyer, drawing on their extensive expertise, compared the two players during their time at FC Bayern. First, they took a look at the numbers.

When you compare the numbers, Kane has the edge. He played 12,198 minutes for the record-holding champions, scoring 148 goals and recording 31 assists. He also scored 13 hat tricks.

As for Lewandowski, he played 12,504 minutes in his first 150 games with Bayern. During that time, he scored 114 goals, recorded 20 assists, and scored six hat tricks.

JayDee Dyer asked his colleague Nico Cantor which player he would prefer. Cantor replied, “Wow, that’s a tough question. I don’t know. Robert was so good at Bayern.”

Dyer pointed out that Lewandowski had won the Champions League with Bayern and also presented a specific scenario. “If there’s only one spot left on the team—just the number nine position—in a Champions League final, and you have both players at their peak: Who do you give the spot to?”

Cantor thought for a moment and then replied, “Robert Lewandowski. I’ve seen him make the difference at the highest level many times. But it’s a tough decision, because in my opinion, Kane’s prime is worth more than Lewandowski’s.”

The two then went on to discuss which version of Kane has been the best so far. They came to the conclusion that at Bayern, he’s playing in an even more dominant and versatile way than he did during his peak at Tottenham.
