The LFP has won its legal dispute with beIN Sports over Ligue 1 rights payments, with a Paris court ruling on Tuesday in the league’s favour.
According to L'Équipe, the economic affairs court instructed beIN Sports to pay €14,130,000 to LFP Media for outstanding instalments and rejected all of the broadcaster’s claims.
The case followed beIN’s refusal to pay each instalment in full this season, amid dissatisfaction with broadcast restrictions on its Saturday afternoon slot, with €78.5m due for the season. The channel had been transferring €14m of the €18m due at each deadline and had sought €29m in damages.
It comes two weeks after the LFP prevailed in a separate case against Canal+ and beIN Sports regarding the 2021 Amazon deal for Ligue 1 rights.
From next season, beIN Sports will no longer show Ligue 1, which it wanted. Ligue 1+, the league’s platform, will carry all matches, with a subscription price rise from the current €14.99 per month with commitment.
beIN remains a partner through its Ligue 2 rights contract, worth €40m per season until 2029.
