A subdued second half at Auxerre has brought wasteful finishing and few clear chances in this Ligue 1 2025-2026 matchday 23 meeting.
According to L'Équipe, Arnaud Nordin sent a long-range effort well wide before Rennes made two changes, Mousa Al-Tamari for Ludovic Blas and Estéban Lepaul for Breel Embolo.
Josué Casimir was penalised for handball, returning possession to the Bretons. Namaso drove through the middle and fed Sinayoko to the right, but the Auxerre forward dragged his shot across and wide of the left post.
Namaso then found Oppegard on the left edge, yet the Norwegian sliced a left-footed attempt off target. The early stages of the second period stayed flat, Auxerre no sharper despite the changes, and Rennes eased off a touch.
Kévin Danois lashed a half-volley from nearly 30 metres that flew over, and Elisha Owusu was booked. Auxerre have failed to score in five home Ligue 1 matches this season, joint-highest with Metz, their most since 2008/09 when they recorded eight.
The referee let play continue after Camara caught Senaya in midfield, allowing the Rennes double goalscorer to advance before being stopped outside the box. Casimir was then penalised for handball in the Rennes area, the ball going back to the Bretons.
Al-Tamari’s right-sided cross from the edge of the box was too heavy and ran out for a throw. Quentin Merlin was booked for a foul in his channel, and Danois’s free-kick that followed came to nothing.
