Lille have reached an agreement with Red Bull Salzburg to recruit a Danish Under-21 international, moving swiftly after the record €100m sale of Ayyoub Bouaddi, 18, to Manchester City on 26 August.
According to Austrian media, the player is Maurits Kjaergaard, who remains under contract with Salzburg until 30 June 2028.
The transfer fee has not been disclosed, and his market value is estimated at €8m. Kjaergaard was named Denmark’s male talent of the year in 2022 and has 19 Under-21 caps with six goals.
He can operate in central midfield in defensive or attacking roles, and has also been used on the right.
Kjaergaard is set to become Lille’s fourth senior midfielder, alongside Benjamin André, Nabil Bentaleb and Ngal'ayel Mukau.
