Lionel Messi ended his holiday and returned to Miami to start the first day of pre-season with the most recent Major League Soccer champions.

According to SuperDepor.com, the Argentina captain reported under the close watch of coach Javier Mascherano, alongside team-mates including Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul.

With the 2026 World Cup across the United States, Mexico and Canada, the Rosario-born star begins a significant year at 38 for his personal and football preparation.

Inter Miami will look different after the departures and retirements of leaders such as Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Defensive additions include Canada goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, Argentine full-back Facundo Mura, Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón and Brazilian defender Micael, plus Argentine midfielder David Ayala.

Their schedule features Alianza Lima in Peru on 24 January, Atlético Nacional in Colombia on 31 January and Barcelona de Guayaquil in Ecuador on seven February.

Inter Miami start their MLS season on 21 February against Los Angeles FC.
