Lionel Mpasi will begin the Ligue 1 season as Le Havre’s number one, with Rassoul Ndiaye confirmed as captain. Mpasi, 32, is coming off a World Cup campaign with DR Congo.
Le Havre face Monaco on Sunday at 17:15. According to L'Équipe, head coach Didier Digard has turned to Mpasi amid a need for stability, with widespread changes across staff and squad.
Mpasi was understudy last season to Mory Diaw, 33, who is being courted by Lille. Digard said Diaw is going through a turbulent spell and the team will start with Mpasi to provide stability. He added this gives Diaw time either to find a project if he still wants to leave, or, if he stays, to reset, stressing he has not felt him distracted.
With Arouna Sangante and other leaders, such as Abdoulaye Touré, departing, Ndiaye takes the armband. The 24-year-old has accepted the role with great honour.
Aside from long-term absentees Stephan Zagadou and Felix Mambimbi, the squad is fit for Monaco.
