‘Little Chance’ Club Now Sign Nottingham Forest Star | OneFootball

Nottingham Forest star Dilane Bakwa’s potential move to Rennes has ‘little chance’ of materialising, with his salary proving too high for the French outfit to accommodate.

The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive spell with Strasbourg, which placed him on the radar of a host of clubs last summer, including Leeds United.

The Tricky Trees ultimately secured his services, with Bakwa arriving at the City Ground as their third-most expensive acquisition of the window for a fee worth £30m.

His maiden campaign with the Reds, however, fell short of the impact Bakwa would have wanted, as opportunities were hard to find and he was unable to find the net even once.

The Frenchman mustered just two assists from 967 minutes across the entire season, as he found himself struggling to make much real impact.

Just a year after his arrival, speculation emerged this summer that the winger could head back to his homeland, with Rennes exploring the possibility of taking him back to Ligue 1.

During talks, however, Bakwa’s salary emerged as a significant stumbling block for the French outfit, complicating their attempts to take the deal forward.

Now, according to Rennes insider Jonathan, Rennes are unlikely to sign Bakwa this summer, with ‘little chance’ the deal goes through.

Whether the Ligue 1 outfit can work out a solution during the closing stretch of the window remains to be seen, but at the moment it appears the Forest star will not be signing for Rennes.

The Frenchman has four years remaining on his City Ground contract, while it is yet to be clear whether he can force his way into more regular opportunities under new boss Oliver Glasner should he stay.

Glasner got some Crystal Palace players back on track at Selhurst Park, notably Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Bakwa could be a similar case.
