Liverpool have beaten Real Madrid to a transfer on deadline day in a sensational move.

It has been a slow summer for the Reds in the transfer market.

Ultimately, Richard Hughes secured only three senior signings this summer. Ronald Araujo arrived on loan from Barcelona, Bradley Barcola was signed for close to a club record fee of £123m from Paris Saint Germain and Victor Munoz was brought in from Osasuna.

In isolation the trio are all exciting arrivals who will bolster Liverpool.

It's important to mention Jeremy Jacquet will technically count as a new signing as well given he joined the club this summer after agreeing a move in January.

And Giovanni Leoni will be like a new signing considering he missed pretty much the whole of last season.

So, there's plenty to be excited about even if it was an underwhelming window.

Liverpool secure special signings for the future

It's also important to note that this window was also about setting up the club for the long-term.

Liverpool's recruitment team brought in some important players from across the globe.

At the start of the summer we saw Ifeanyi Ndukwe join from Austria. Liverpool signed Samuel Martinez from Colombia later on.

They also welcomed two trialists from Gambia in Sheriff Bah and Musa Jatta, and are in talks to sign Diego Pelembe from Mozambique.

Meanwhile on the final day of the window, Liverpool also secured the signing of Djylian N'Guessan from France and Lucca Brughmans from Belgium.

In a last-minute deal the Reds secured the impressive Belgian goalkeeper from Genk.

Brughmans is only 18-years-old but he is already a first-choice goalkeeper for his side. He will be heading back out on loan for the rest of the season playing for Genk.

Liverpool will have an option to recall him in January, should they feel it's necessary.

The youngster is believed to be very highly rated. He was the captain for Belgium at the U17 Euros and U17 World Cup and he attracted the interest of many clubs.

Among the clubs to have made a late move for Brughmans were Real Madrid according to TEAMtalk but Liverpool beat them to the race.

That's definitely a huge coup and a positive sign of the exciting project Liverpool are building.
