Liverpool certainly have a lot of making up to do to their fans until the end of the 2025-26 season.

The Reds have been in topsy-turvy form for most of the campaign and, although they've often shown that they can compete with the best, there are times when things just haven't gone to plan.

For example, even though the Reds opened the scoring against Manchester City on Sunday evening, they still managed to lose the game 2-1.

Granted, a lot of this was due to the poor positioning of Dominik Szoboszlai but, the fact that he was playing out of position and scored Liverpool's only goal of the game means that he can be forgiven.

However, one thing that has been made clear this term is that Liverpool need to add some new defensive talent to their ranks as soon as possible.

Otherwise, they could end up performing even worse than they are now.

Liverpool to battle Tottenham and Inter Milan for Konstantinos Koulierakis

Several players have been linked with Anfield switches this term but, it's now clear that a couple of new centre-backs are much needed.

Granted, once Jeremy Jacquet joins in the summer, Arne Slot will have five centre-backs at his disposal.

However, since Ibrahima Konate could still exit in the summer and Joe Gomez is made of glass, the Dutchman hardly has any say in who he can or can't start.

Konstantinos Koulierakis is one of many centre-backs who have been linked with a Liverpool move in the past and now, as per a fresh update for Fussballdaten, it seems like a move for the 22-year-old is back on the table.

The report from the German outlet starts by saying that the Greece international is seen as one of the 'most promising centre-backs in Europe.'

Several clubs are on the hunt for new and exciting defenders with Liverpool, Tottenham and Inter Milan the most intensely interested in acquiring his services.

Koulierakis is now on the Reds' 'A-list' with the centre-back eyed as a long term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

Wolfsburg are already looking for 'potential successors' with it becoming 'increasingly difficult' for the Bundesliga outfit to keep him among their ranks beyond the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Seeing as though Konate and Andy Robertson's contracts are set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, it's clear that Slot's defensive line is going to need a massive revamp in the summer.

As mentioned, several players have already been rumoured to be of interest to Liverpool but, of all the names mentioned, Koulierakis seems like the most interesting option.

The centre-back is following a fairly similar career path to Micky van de Ven who also left Wolfsburg for the Premier League at a young age.

And, if the Greece international is even half the player that the Dutchman is, any time who signed him would be lucky to have him among their ranks.

There's still a rather long wait until the transfer window is open again but, the fact that several names are already being linked to Liverpool is certainly a step in the right direction.

Here's hoping that Jacquet isn't the only defender that Richard Hughes and Slot bring in.
