Good news for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp names Germany squad

Jurgen Klopp appears to have handed Liverpool a welcome boost over Florian Wirtz after naming his first Germany squad.

Klopp has succeeded Julian Nagelsmann as Germany boss after a disastrous World Cup performance in the United States which saw the side eliminated by Paraguay on penalties in the last-32.

Now preparing to venture into the world of international management, the former Liverpool has announced his first Germany squad, doing so in unusual fashion by naming 44 players in total and splitting his squad into two.

24 players will feature against the Netherlands and Greece on September 24 and September 27 respectively, and the remaining 20 players will then be in contention to face Serbia on October 1 and then again against Greece on October 4.

Wirtz has been included in the second squad, leaving the 23-year-old some time to rest after Liverpool’s away fixture against Bournemouth in the Premier League.

"It's very unusual that you've got four games in two weeks with the national team," said Klopp at a press conference in Frankfurt.

"I want to get to know as many players as possible in that time.

“It's not an A-team and a B-team, but the two squads have been created in a way that each fits well together."

Wirtz is struggling to find his form in a new-look Liverpool side under Andoni Iraola.

Despite playing almost the full ninety minutes in most of Liverpool’s fixtures so far this season, the attacking midfielder only has one assist to his name. He has failed to net in well over 400 minutes of playing time.

This has coincided with Liverpool picking up just six points from a possible twelve in the league to leave them languishing behind rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

It is not all bad for the Reds though who have had two excellent performances and wins against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

After the international break Liverpool have fixtures against Man City and Brentford in the Premier League and a Champions League trip to Austria to face LASK.
