Liverpool have officially accelerated their search for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande emerging as the club’s “top target.”

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 21-year-old winger has moved to the summit of Liverpool’s shortlist following a unanimous consensus within the club’s hierarchy.

The Egyptian King is set to leave the club at the end of the season and the Reds are determined to avoid a transitional void.

Plettenberg reports that concrete talks are already ongoing with Diomande’s new representatives at Roc Nation Sports, signaling that the Reds are laying the groundwork for a blockbuster summer move.

Liverpool owners approve move for Yan Diomande

The pursuit of the Leipzig starlet is not merely a scouting recommendation; it has received the full backing of FSG and the sporting department.

Plettenberg noted on X that the move has been “approved by all LFC decision-makers,” indicating that the financial package required to lure the winger to Merseyside is being prepared.

However, the path to his signature is far from clear. No official agreement has been reached yet, and Liverpool have not entered formal negotiations with RB Leipzig.

The German club is understandably reluctant to lose their prized asset and is reportedly keen to “adjust his salary and extend his contract.”

Furthermore, Paris Saint-Germain, led by sporting director Luis Campos, are firmly in the race and have already held meetings with the player’s camp.

Plettenberg posted the following update: “Yan Diomande is now Liverpool’s top target to replace Mo Salah, with the move approved by all Liverpool decision-makers.

“Concrete talks are ongoing with his new representatives at Roc Nation Sports, although no agreement has been reached yet and the clubs have not entered negotiations.

Yan Diomande would be an excellent signing for Liverpool

On paper, Diomande represents the ideal fit. Known for his explosive pace, high-volume dribbling, and clinical finishing from the right flank, the Ivorian international mirrors many of the attributes that made Salah a legend at Anfield.

At just 21, Diomande offers a decade of potential at the highest level. His ability to cut inside on his left foot and provide both goals and assists would allow Liverpool to maintain their attacking identity post-Salah.

While PSG’s interest poses a significant threat, Liverpool’s early move to involve Roc Nation Sports suggests they are confident in their pitch to bring one of Europe’s most exciting talents to the Premier League.
