Liverpool have turned down a £30m offer from Nottingham Forest for Trey Nyoni ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline. According to NY Times, the club are not prepared to sanction the 19-year-old’s departure.
Forest’s proposal was £25m guaranteed plus £5m in add-ons.
Andoni Iraola is counting on the England youth international after he impressed Liverpool’s new head coach in pre-season.
Having sold Curtis Jones to Inter for £30m earlier this month, Liverpool chose not to recruit a replacement, believing Nyoni is ready for a much bigger role this season.
Nyoni signed a new long-term contract last summer, and further extension talks are expected following his development over the past 12 months. He has made 21 appearances since arriving from Leicester City’s academy three years ago, and he caught the eye from the bench in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Forest at Anfield.
Iraola said he is very happy with Nyoni and that the teenager impressed both in games and in training against top-level players. He said he has no doubts about him, that he will be very valuable this season, and he hopes Nyoni plays a lot while maintaining the level seen every day.
