The France international’s move to Liverpool was officially confirmed on Monday afternoon, around 32 hours before the summer window closes.

Barcola has signed a five-year contract at Anfield, with Liverpool paying a guaranteed £106million for the winger, with add-ons potentially taking the fee to £123m.

The 23-year-old, who celebrates his birthday on Wednesday, has now become Andoni Iraola's third major signing of the summer after Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo.

"It's a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy, Barcola said.

"It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play.

"I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it's one of my biggest dreams in my life.

"It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that's why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it."

Barcola - now Liverpool's second most expensive signing of all time after Alexander Isak - will wear the No29 shirt for his new club, a decision that comes as little surprise.

In an interview with Club Legacyz last year, Barcola explained his preferred shirt number choice.

He said: "It’s actually a funny story. When I was younger, I used to play FIFA. In the story mode with Alex Hunter, this number became symbolic for me. I thought to myself: 'The day I go pro, it’ll be number 29.'

"And here I am, I adopted it, and now I’ll never let it go."

Barcola is the first Liverpool player since Arthur Melo in the 2022-23 season to wear the No29 shirt.
