Dominik Szoboszlai's penalty miss causes confusion

Since the 2025-26 season kicked off, set-pieces have been Liverpool's Achilles heel.

They've conceded the most corners out of all the Premier League teams while also scoring the least.

Things such as free kicks and penalties have often gone in their favour, but, on Saturday, Dominik Szoboszlai missed his chance.

Cody Gakpo won the penalty after trying to cut in past Florentino Luis and, since Mohamed Salah is still playing for Egypt, the former RB Leipzig ace was the one chosen to step up.

The Hungarian's penalties are usually a sure-fire way of getting a goal but on 17 January, it just wasn't meant to be.

And, while speaking live on the USA Network, Leon Osman gave his thoughts on the midfielder's missed penalty.

"Wow, what I will say is that he couldn't have hit it any better," he said.

"He was right behind it, the keeper goes the right way, [he] goes for height, goes for right in the top corner to be as accurate as he possibly can, he just doesn't quite get it right, big let off for Burnley."
