Reds out for Champions League revenge on last 16 opponents

Florian Wirtz could return to the Liverpool starting XI when they take on Galatasaray tomorrow.

The German had been ruled out of the Reds’ last three matches with a back niggle that he sustained in the warm-up of the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

The attacking midfielder withdrew from Arne Slot’s starting lineup that day, and sat out their fixtures with West Ham and Wolves in the Premier League.

He returned off the bench at Molineux in the FA Cup on Friday, replacing Rio Ngumoha.

It means that barring his longer-term absentees, Slot has a full complement to pick from for his Champions League last 16 first leg at RAMS Park, where the Merseysiders have already lost this season.

Alexander Isak, Giovanni Leoni, Wataru Endo and Conor Bradley are all out for extended spells with their respective long-term injuries.

But that means that there is likely to be more consistency in Slot’s team selection, with Alisson in goal, despite the Brazilian hobbling off injured in his last trip to Turkey last year.

Jeremie Frimpong has made a full recovery from his latest injury setback and he should feature at right-back, although Joe Gomez will rival him for a start.

Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk will be in the middle, and it is likely to be Milos Kerkez that completes the back four.

In midfield, expect Ryan Gravenberch, fresh off his new contract, to be partnered by Alexis Mac Allister, with Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of them.

Cody Gakpo could be off the left, although Wirtz could be shifted wider should Slot want him from the get-go.

Mohamed Salah will be on the right flank, with Hugo Ekitike leading the line.

Predicted Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike

Injured: Isak, Leoni, Endo, Bradley
