Liverpool's midfield is very clearly their weakest area among their ranks at the moment.

Even though Alexis Mac Allister has managed to get back to his best, the Reds could still do with changing a couple of their players around.

Lamine Camara, Adam Wharton and many others have already been linked with a switch but, for one reason or another, none of those moves have come to fruition yet.

A new number six should be one of Andoni Iraola's main priorities at the moment, especially now that his defence and attack are more or less sorted.

As mentioned, several players have already been linked with a move but now, a fresh option for Liverpool to explore has just emerged.

Liverpool have sent their scouts to watch Louis Page in action

In their Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham on Tuesday evening, both Mac Allister and Trey Nyoni put in rather decent shifts.

The duo started the game against Roberto De Zerbi's men and, if we're being honest, they were a massive upgrade compared to Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch's partnership.

Indeed, a lot of this was down to them winning more duels than the other two but, it does go to show how important a strong defensive midfielder is.

In this day and age, having less than five players defending your goal is a death sentence.

Teams are much faster and can create much more than they have done in the past.

So, the fact that Leicester City's Louis Page is now being linked with Liverpool makes a lot of sense.

Admittedly, with Page only being 18 years old, there's still a long time until he's going to be the captain of a senior squad.

However, with the way that he carries himself on the pitch and the way he plays, it feels like he could easily become Liverpool's next Jordan Henderson.

One of the best things about the former Sunderland man when he used to play for Liverpool was how he never stopped running and could always be relied upon to put in a crunching tackle whenever needed.

Page is fairly similar in that regard with Leicester's 4-3 win over Stockport on Saturday further proving this.

During that clash, the 18-year-old bagged himself two assists and, according to Sofascore, he was one of Russell Martin's best players.

Of course, making the step up from League One to the Premier League would be a huge jump but, with enough training and coaching from Iraola, he could easily be part of Liverpool's future midfield.

Obviously, it's still early days in the deal with Liverpool only just sending their scouts to eye him up but, of all the number six options that the Reds have been given this season, Page feels like the smartest move of them all.
