Victor Munoz says the Premier League’s relentless pace is already sharpening his game after his €40 million move to Liverpool from Osasuna. The Spain winger became Andoni Iraola’s first signing at Anfield, agreeing a six-year deal.
A former Real Madrid youth player, Munoz was named in Spain’s World Cup-winning squad in the summer but injury denied him minutes. Now fit, he returned to the national team as a second-half substitute against Croatia on Tuesday.
On Spain duty before Saturday’s Nations League tie with Czechia, he contrasted La Liga’s tactical focus with the Premier League’s physical edge. He said training intensity on Merseyside is markedly higher and that the step up is aiding his development.
At club level he has made five Premier League appearances and scored once while bedding into Iraola’s attacking approach. He admits the speed of his rise has been hard to process, though he and his family are trying to savour it, and he feels in a good place.
Spain selection brings fierce competition, notably from Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, who hit two goals and an assist in the recent 4-1 win over Croatia in Seville. Munoz regards that rivalry as healthy, says he learns from Yamal, and describes their friendship as a privilege.
