Livingston and Rangers face off in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday with both teams looking to kickstart their campaigns.
The Gers are to win in the league this season under new manager Russell Martin, while Livingston have not beaten the Glasgow outfit in their last 21 attempts. The most recent victory came in 2018.
David Martindale’s squad will be without several key players for this encounter. Aidan Denholm remains sidelined with a hamstring injury that has troubled him since his summer move from Hearts. Cameron Kerr and Cristian Montano are also unavailable due to unspecified fitness issues.
The Lions will look to their attacking trio of Lewis Smith, Scott Pittman and Jeremy Bokila to provide the goals. Smith has impressed with two goals and one assist in six league appearances, while Pittman has also found the net twice this season. Robbie Muirhead is expected to lead the line with Tete Yengi providing support in attacking areas.
Martindale expressed hope that his team can capitalise on Rangers’ quick turnaround from European competition, telling Sky Sports: “You’re competing against a team that played roughly 72 hours earlier, so I believe that can be advantageous when you haven’t played”.
Russell Martin faces no fresh injury concerns following their midweek loss to Genk, but continues to deal with longer-term absentees. Dujon Sterling remains out with an Achilles tendon injury and is not expected to return until the new year. Rabbi Matondo is also unavailable with an unspecified injury.
Lyall Cameron, signed from Dundee in the summer, has yet to feature for the Gers but is expected to return within the next couple of weeks. The midfielder was ruled out with an unspecified injury shortly after joining the club.
Bojan Miovski is likely to return to the starting lineup after Youssef Chermiti’s disappointing debut against Genk. The striker struggled to make an impact despite his physical presence, managing just one touch in the opposition penalty area throughout the match.
Martin is expected to make changes following the Europa League defeat, with Oliver Antman potentially replacing Mikey Moore on the wing. Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande are set to continue their partnership in midfield, even though the latter was sent off in Europe in midweek.
Livingston, sitting 9th with five points from the six games, have not won in the league since their opening weekend victory over Falkirk. The Lions suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Dundee in their most recent league outing.
Rangers find themselves in a precarious position, sitting 11th with just four points from five games – their worst Scottish Premiership start in 47 years. Indeed, their six-game winless run in the Scottish Premiership is the longest in club history.
Russell Martin’s side remain without a single league victory this season and are coming off the back of a 1-0 Europa League defeat to Genk on Thursday night.
