Lazio legend Angelo Peruzzi has turned down the opportunity to return to the club, so Claudio Lotito could resort to Senad Lulic.
In recent weeks, Peruzzi was heavily tipped to assume a role at Formello, five years following his departure. However, it was later revealed that the former goalkeeper rejected the offer following talks with club president Lotito.
While some reports suggested that the 56-year-old was eyeing a more influential position, others believe he refused to associate himself with the unpopular owner while the Biancocelesti supporters are in an open revolt, with several Lazio legends (like Veron and Signori) siding with the fans, as illustrated by the video messages displayed during last Thursday’s march.
Either way, Peruzzi won’t return to Lazio this summer, but Lotito is apparently hellbent on bringing back a beloved Lazio to the club, someone who could perhaps act as a link between the hierarchy and rebelling fanbase.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lulic has been identified as the perfect profile for the role. The Bosnian is a bona fide Biancocelesti legend. He spent 10 years at the club before being forced to retire due to an injury he suffered in 2021. The left winger will forever be remembered for the winner he scored against Roma in the 2013 Coppa Italia final.
Lulic has been living in Switzerland over the past five years, dedicating himself to his family, while occasionally working as a TV pundit. The question remains whether he would be willing to consider this offer at this delicate time, or follow Peruzzi’s guidance by turning it down, especially if the fans urge him to stay away.
