Il Tempo reported that Claudio Lotito rejected a €450 million bid for Lazio presented via JP Morgan, but the club said in a statement this evening that no such approach had been received.
The proposal was described as originating from American investors looking to enter Serie A, and Lotito was said to have opted to keep control. It was not clear when the approach was made or how quickly it was declined.
In its response, Lazio firmly rejected the story, stating that no proposal, expression of interest, preliminary contact or communication of any kind had ever arrived from JP Morgan or anyone acting for it. The club called the information entirely unfounded and without factual basis.
It also asked the newspaper to publish an immediate correction with equivalent prominence, and said it would notify CONSOB. The company cited repeated unsubstantiated rumours about its share capital that could disrupt the market and confuse investors.
This episode adds to an already inflamed atmosphere, with ultras having stayed away from the Stadio Olimpico for several months this season. They have been protesting Lotito’s stewardship, arguing he underinvests and would accept struggles on the pitch in exchange for balanced books.
