Angelo Peruzzi has rejected a return to Lazio, leaving Claudio Lotito determined to find an alternative after the setback.
Il Corriere dello Sport reports that Senad Lulic has been identified as the ideal profile to act as a bridge between the hierarchy and the support.
Peruzzi had been strongly tipped in recent weeks for a role at Formello, five years after his exit, but he declined after talks with Lotito.
Some reports suggest the 56-year-old wanted greater influence, while others say he wished to avoid the unpopular owner amid an open supporter revolt. Club greats such as Veron and Signori backed the protests with video messages shown at last Thursday’s march.
Lulic, a modern Lazio icon, spent 10 years at the club and retired following an injury suffered in 2021. He is cherished for his winner against Roma in the 2013 Coppa Italia final.
He has lived in Switzerland for the past five years, focusing on family and occasional punditry. Whether he would consider the approach now, or follow Peruzzi’s lead if urged by fans to stay away, remains unclear.
