Luan Peres has recalled being briefly knocked out during Santos’ match against Coritiba, saying he momentarily could not feel his legs, according to Globo.com.

He came on at half-time to steady a defence that had trailed 3-0, but was struck full in the face six minutes into the half and went down.

Referee Paulo Cezar Zanovelli da Silva stopped play immediately. Santos’ medical team and an ambulance entered the pitch at Neo Química Arena, and Peres was taken off around eight minutes after coming on.

Peres said he remembers the incident and felt it was far worse than it appeared on the replay. He was told a blow to the jaw can make the brain briefly switch off, similar to a punch in combat sports. He described a shock through his spine and, for seconds, an absence of movement in his legs before sensation returned.

He was taken by ambulance to Hospital São Luiz Anália Franco in São Paulo and discharged the following day. Under CBF concussion protocol he missed training the next week and the Copa Sudamericana tie with San Lorenzo, then returned against Grêmio before starting again last Thursday against Macará.

The match itself was dominated by confusion over Neymar being replaced by Robinho Jr in his final outing before a Brazil World Cup call-up, which overshadowed Peres’ ordeal.

He joked it felt like boxing and admitted he had wanted to continue, but accepted the club doctor was right to insist on his substitution.
