According to Coluna Do Fla, Lucas Paquetá said Leonardo Jardim made a light-hearted remark about his €42 million price tag ahead of the Mirassol match, which he disclosed after Flamengo’s win at the Maracanã.

On the night he started as an attacking midfielder, then dropped into a deeper role after the break. He also scored with a header from a Carrascal cross.

Paquetá recounted that the coach told him his value owes much to his ability to play in several positions, adding that if he only covered one he would be worth about 20 million. He described versatility as a hallmark and said he is happy to help wherever Flamengo need him.

Jardim confirmed the quip in his press conference, pointing to the player’s switch of roles across the two halves and saying that multi-position footballers are valued above those restricted to a single position.

The move marked his return to Brazilian football after several years in Europe, following a switch from West Ham.

Paquetá has 10 goals and no assists in 31 appearances this year, closing in on his 2018 return of 12 goals and six assists across 56 games.
