Bruno Fernandes will stay with the Portugal squad for the remainder of the international break, despite being injured.

It remains to be seen how severe Fernandes’ problem is, but Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has suggested the midfielder will be rested for their clash with Denmark on Thursday, as he was for their weekend outing against Norway.

Samuel Luckhurst shared this morning on Twitter/X: “Bruno Fernandes [is] remaining with Portugal, despite missing the Norway game. Told he has ‘recovered’ from fitness issues to start recent MUFC Premier League matches. May account for his off-colour form (apart from Ipswich [Town]).”

From Manchester United’s perspective, they’d have much rather kept their talisman at Carrington for the duration of the break in order to allow him a rest after the opening month of the campaign.

Fernandes has already contributed four goals and an assist in his seven club appearances thus far, and Michael Carrick will need the skipper fit and ready for the Reds’ hectic run in October.

Patrick Dorgu sparks further injury concerns after early withdrawal

As well as Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu seemingly sustained a non-contact injury when in action against Wales on Sunday.

He was hooked after only 29 minutes of Denmark’s clash with Wales, after which manager Brian Riemer revealed the youngster would have to leave the camp.

“Patrick Dorgu was hurt today. It’s just really annoying, to put it bluntly. He picked [up] an injury so he needs to go home. Now we have to bring someone in; that’s for sure,” said Riemer.

Dorgu has already been utilised in both attack and defence since 2026/2027 got underway, more recently reverting to his natural left-back position in the absence of Luke Shaw.

Given Carrick’s lack of depth in the full-back department, it’s imperative that the Dane stays fit and available – especially with Shaw’s track record on the injury front.
