Luís Castro will keep rotating Grêmio up to the Gre-Nal on 25 after a 1-0 defeat by São José at the Arena.
According to Globo.com, the Portuguese accepted the display was poor after making wholesale changes from the win over Avenida, and views the derby with Internacional as the first major test of the season.
He swapped the entire XI, with Gustavo Martins and Arthur not even in the squad. He said he is gathering as much information as possible and giving players minutes to shape a line-up close to his Brasileirão team by the time the derby arrives.
Castro said his side played too much on the outside, lacked aggression towards goal, and failed to attack or defend together or press. He called it a disappointment for everyone and said these issues need rectifying from the next match.
Many of those left out on Wednesday will feature on Saturday against São Luiz at the Arena, this time with supporters in the stands. Grêmio train on Thursday at CT Luiz Carvalho, and on Friday goalkeeper Weverton will arrive in Porto Alegre to join the squad.
