Luis de la Fuente ‘set to extend’ Spain contract until 2030 | OneFootball

Luis de la Fuente is close to extending his Spain contract until 2030. The Athletic reports that the 65-year-old is nearing an agreement.

His current deal runs until the end of Euro 2028. The development comes about two months after Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in New York to lift the World Cup.

Appointed in December 2022, he succeeded Luis Enrique following elimination by Morocco, a 0-0 draw then 0-3 on penalties.

Since then he has won the Nations League in 2023, Euro 2024 and the World Cup.

He has also overseen the emergence of a new generation, including Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Nico Williams and Fermin Lopez.

An extension through the 2030 World Cup, which will be staged in part in Spain, would reward the Haro-born coach’s work. He is among five finalists for men’s coach of the year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on 26 October in London.
