Luiz Henrique will not be joining Flamengo for now, with his representatives confirming that negotiations have been halted.

The player's camp said in a statement that talks are officially closed because a series of events made progress difficult.

The breakdown followed an impasse between Flamengo and Zenit. The clubs had moved towards a financial agreement and the player had approved the interest, then a fresh budget issue stopped the move.

Flamengo's offer was 30 million euros, roughly R$ 177 million, plus 5 million euros, around R$ 29 million, in bonuses, assembled by football director José Boto. The club did not formalise the bid because it only completes paperwork when everything is agreed.

Later, president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, blocked the deal and said he could not release more than the 20 to 25 million euros offered for Thiago Almada in talks with Atlético de Madrid. Zenit agreed to stretch payment terms to three years, but would not drop a total near 35 million euros.

Another hurdle was the number of agents involved, two for Flamengo and two intermediaries. In that scenario, Bap stopped extra spending and barred Boto from concluding anything above the pre-agreed budget.

Inside the club there had been confidence the move would advance, with announcement plans already discussed. It is the second frustrated pursuit this window, as River Plate move to sign Thiago Almada from Atlético de Madrid, a key Flamengo target.
