Speaking after netting a third goal in six matches in all competitions, Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha was relieved the team were able to progress in the Emirates FA Cup.

The forward smashed in the opener against Birmingham City but the hosts equalised late on, forcing the tie to penalties where the Whites were victorious.

“It was a good start to the second half,” the German international explained after the full-time whistle in the West Midlands.

“We pressed, we changed formation and we went on the front foot and unfortunately they just scored close to the end, which obviously made it a very difficult day.

“I took my shot and it went in. Yeah, I think I have got a good finish. I trust myself in those situations and recently it has been working quite well.

“I think we played longer a bit more than we wanted to. I think we wanted to dominate possession a bit more than what we did.

“I think as a striker, you have just got to kind of put them duels away, the ones that you didn’t win, and just try and think, the next one, the next one. And thankfully, I got that chance.

“The fans were buzzing today. It was really loud, even at the team talk at the end, we could hear them in the changing room. It is just a good day, really tough but really important.”
