Leeds United favourites past and present have saluted Illan Meslier after his farewell message, with Luke Ayling, Pascal Struijk and Stuart Dallas among those to respond.
His contract expired last week, closing a seven-year stay that brought two Championship winner’s medals and a spell as a Premier League regular under Marcelo Bielsa. The player said in a post that he had found a club like no other and, although ready for a new chapter, Leeds would never leave him.
He shared his goodbye on Friday night, thanking supporters and backroom staff. Despite losing his place to Karl Darlow and not featuring for the first team last season, he remained a popular figure. In the current squad, only Struijk has been at the club longer.
Ayling urged him to be proud of his time at the club, calling him a top player and an even better person while wishing him well. Dallas reflected on great times together and sent best wishes for what comes next. Vice-captain Struijk said it had been a pleasure.
Others added their support. Josuha Guilavogui said he had believed in Meslier from day one, Willy Gnonto hailed him a legend and Joel Piroe wished him luck, nicknaming him Casper. Barry Douglas, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Dani van den Heuvel all posted warm messages for their former team-mate.
