Portsmouth have agreed a deal to sign Luton Town goalkeeper Matt Macey according to Football Insider.
The former Arsenal youth product has been linked with a move to Scotland after interest was shown by both Aberdeen and Dundee United.
However, it looks like Portsmouth will win the race to sign the experienced stopper who looks set to join on a season-long loan deal.
Macey has struggled for first-team action at Luton this season with Ethan Horvath being preferred as number one so far. Macey’s sole appearance for the Hatters came in an EFL Cup clash against Newport County in August.
The experienced goalkeeper began his youth career at Bristol Rovers but was then snapped up by Arsenal’s academy in 2013 where he was loaned out to Accrington Stanley, Luton and Plymouth.
Interestingly, Macey boasts an FA Cup winners medal having been named in the squad that beat Chelsea in 2020. He found opportunities hard to come by at Arsenal, which prompted a permanent move to Hibernian in 2021 and became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
But his time in Scotland was short-lived, with Macey moving back to England in last summer when he completed a transfer to Luton for an undisclosed fee.
Portsmouth have been desperate for a goalkeeper having seen Josh Griffiths recalled by West Brom, with Macey looking like he will fill the void left by the 21-year-old.

The Verdict
It’s a much-needed signing from Pompey who have been desperate for a goalkeeper.
Macey will bring experience to the side, a trait they’ve not had in a goalkeeper since Craig MacGillivary. Not only that, but he will be desperate to perform as well having seen himself be number two at Kenilworth Road this season.
With a new manager potentially on the horizon, ensuring the squad is bolstered for the remainder of the season is an absolute must with their recent form seeing them drop from playoff contention, to lower mid-table.
