Lyon midfielder Mathys De Carvalho is expected to sign for Al-Diriyah, according to L’Équipe.

The 21-year-old had interest from Saudi and Portuguese clubs, and is said to have been won over by a pitch from his future manager, Bruno Lage.

Al-Diriyah, promoted to the top flight, would see him join other former Ligue 1 players including Chancel Mbemba, 32, Idrissa Gueye, 36, and Enzo Millot, 24.

Lyon are set to receive around €1m in compensation, plus bonuses. De Carvalho is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia in the coming hours, then sign a deal running to 2029.

Launched into professional football by Paulo Fonseca, the Portugal Under-20 international has 10 caps and one goal. He has made 22 appearances for Lyon in all competitions, providing one assist.

The Rhône club have sought to streamline their squad and reduce the wage bill this window, and this move would mark their 12th departure of the summer.
