Lyon are set to rival Ligue 1 side Rennes for the signing of Brest midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou (32), according to a report from L’Equipe. Les Rouge et Noir rekindled their interest in the former Norwich City FC midfielder, who had a stellar 2023-2024 campaign, leading Brest to a maiden Champions League campaign. The 2024 GFFN’s Ligue 1 Player of the Year remains tied with Brest over a contract set to expire in 2027.
The outlet adds that Lyon have, so far, tried to trim their squad down this summer transfer window. France international midfielder Jordan Veretout is nearing a transfer to Qatar’s Al-Arabi after reaching an agreement on personal terms whilst Nemanja Matic would be allowed to leave, especially due to his important wages.
Lyon are therefore in the market for an experienced midfielder, and Lees-Melou fits the bill. Les Gones might have an ace in the hole as they are qualified for the Europa League, considering Lees-Melou would be keen to continue playing on the continental stage.
