Olympique Lyonnais have suffered a blow during the international break, with Moussa Niakhaté (29) sustaining an injury whilst playing for Senegal.
Niakhaté joined Lyon last summer for a fee north of €30m. This season, he has started in all three of OL’s Ligue 1 games. Paulo Fonseca’s side have started the season brightly, winning all three of their games, whilst keeping a clean sheet in all three fixtures.
However, Fonseca may be forced into a reshuffle of his defence upon the return of domestic football. Senegal beat Sudan in a FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, however, Niakhaté was injured in the process. The centre-back came off on the hour mark, with the federation confirming post-match that he had sustained a knee injury that meant he would not be able to play in Senegal’s second game of the international break, against DR Congo.
However, the seriousness of the injury has not been communicated, nor has his period of absence.
