Mainz cautious over Nadiem Amiri injury

It’s been over one-and-a-half months since Nadiem Amiri had to withdraw from the German national team ahead of their UEFA Nations League Final Four. The Mainz midfielder has been struggling with an adductor injury, and the Bundesliga side remain cautious in rushing the 28-year-old back from the sidelines too soon.

As reported by Bild, what sounded like a minor issue is still troubling Amiri. After returning from his summer break, the German ended training early on Wednesday. The following day, Amiri wasn’t on the pitch at all due to “load management,” and on Friday he was absent from their friendly against Mainz’ 4-0 win over Bayern Alzenau – instead completing a training session with the reserves.

When pushed on what the specific injury is, Bo Svensson cites several injuries: “adductor problems” become “public bone inflammation” and sometimes “back problems.”

When questioned by Bild, Svensson reassured fans: “We’re just being cautious. Nadiem wanted to play 20 minutes on Friday, but I told him that didn’t make sense.”
